bpha appoints two new Non-Executive Directors to the Board

bpha is pleased to announce the appointments of Dr Geraldine O’Sullivan and Shirley Pointer as Non-Executive Directors. They joined the Board in May 2019.

Geraldine brings extensive experience gained within the health service, including as a Consultant Psychiatrist and as Executive Director, Quality and Medical Leadership of the Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust. Geraldine is a Non-Executive Director of the Norfolk and University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is a Chartered Director. Her knowledge of good corporate governance, together with experience of collective Board responsibility, achieved national recognition when she won the Health Service Journal Award for Board Leadership in 2014.

Shirley brings over 20 years’ senior HR experience gained in the private and public sectors, including most recently as Director of Human Resources for the Department of Health. She is a Non-Executive Director of the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Chairs the Remuneration and the Finance and Performance Committees.

Professor Paul Leinster, bpha Chair, said: “We are delighted to welcome our new Non-Executive Directors to the Board. They bring with them a range of skills and a wealth of experience that will strengthen the Board’s oversight of bpha’s strategy and day to day delivery. They are both passionate about the vital role an organisation like ours plays in the communities in which we operate.

“The new appointments coincide with the retirement of Shan Hunt who has served for nine years as a Non-Executive Director, both as a nominee of Bedford Borough Council and more recently as an independent member. I would like to thank Shan for her hard work and the insight she brought to the Board. She has made a real difference for our residents and will be greatly missed.”
